play time!

March 10, 2011

so my new favourite toy (literally) is my ‘Badge it!’ badge maker.

made for kids (as you can tell by the sample badge images provided with the pack!) it makes super quick button badges, which are perfect for little drawings or scraps of material. it’s really easy to use, and surprisingly for a kids toy, the quality is fine to sell…basket of badges here we go! i had a go with some images i had lying around and they look pretty cute i think, although i will do some proper ones when i get the time to draw some new stuff.

speaking of time to draw…i’ve just started work on a new book illustration job for Oxford University Press. it’s ages since i’ve done a commission, and i feel like i’m re-learning how to draw, as well as remembering all the frustrations that come along with it. that said, it’s really nice to be drawing all day, and probably good for me to take on a bit more of a challenge – it’s my first book!

the only down side is that with my new job, which i start in April, i wont have as much time for BearHands as i would like. but i guess that’s what’s comes with making your living through any kind of art – you never quite know what’s coming next!

so until next time, whenever that may be and with new badges….enjoy the sunshine and go pick some daffodils (not from someone’s garden though!).

Thanks for the info. I’d started looking for one of these last year, but was worried about how reliable it would be. A good button making machine can set you back £150 otherwise! Lovely button badges x

Hi, I got it from It costs around £30 with a refil of the badge parts as well. It is called a ‘bandai’ badge maker and is a kids toy really, but i found it fine to make simple badges. The backs are only fastened with safety pins though so they’re not amazing quality. hope that helps!
